Training Workshop on Flood Early Warning for National-level Stakeholders

A National level stakeholders training on Flood Early Warning and Risk Managment under PROVATi3 Project-DDM Component was held on January 07, 2025, at Multipurpose Hall, Department of Disaster Management (DDM). Honorable Director of Department of Disaster Management Mr. Razwanur Rahman was the chief guest, while Project Coordinator Mr. Netai Chandra Dey Sarker presided over the program. Mr. Anjon Chandra Paul and Mr. Dr. Md Habibullah Bahar, joint Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) was present as special guest in the training program. 

 LGED, FFWC, BWDB, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers (DRRO), representatives from Department of Agriculture, Public Health Department, Directors and Deputy Directors from DDM, Joint Secretaries from MoDMR, representatives from D Department of Livestock, Department of Public Health Engineering, Department of Agriculture Extension, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Bangladesh Water Development Board, DGHS, Department of Fisheries, University of Dhaka and other govt. institutes were present in the training program.

 Director-General of DDM, Razwanur Rahnman welcomed all the participants and convened the workshop. In his opening remarks, he extended a warm greeting to everyone in attendance and expressed his gratitude for their involvement in this training program. Later he remained focused on the importance of the training and its goal of flood risk reduction. He begins by delivering an overview of the project's goal and action plan to the entire group of participants. He invited everyone to collaborate in order to bring the PROVATi3 Project to a successful conclusion.

 Mr. Netai Chandra Dey Sarker, Project Coordinator, PROVATi3-DDM component delivered a presentation on Basic Concepts in relation to Flood Early Warning and Overview of Flood EW Generation and Dissemination Systems and enlightened the trainees on the regulatory framework behind disaster management. 

 Mr. Partho Protim Barua, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, Bangladesh Water Development Board delivered a detailed presentation on Infrastructure and Operational Procedure of Flood Forecasting System in Bangladesh rendered by FFWC, BWDB. During the session, the participants informed that people from all the professional sectors are eager to receive all sorts of early warning and weather forecasts along with flood early warnings. Following the session, a session was led by RIMES official on Flood Forecasting and Early Warning Systems. 

 Special guest Mr. Anjan Chandra Paul, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief delivered his speech while he thanked DDM and PROVATi3 project for arranging such an important training workshop at national level. He wished all the success for the onset of the training program. He showed gratitude to everyone for their insightful suggestions and constructive feedback. Special guest Dr. Mohammad Habibullah Bahar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief thanked DDM and expressed his interest in participating in such capacity building training. He shared some important insights and recommendations for the participants and encouraged them to actively participate the training. He concluded the session expressing his hope to implement the recommendations for enhancing forecast information generation and applications.
